Sprint and Sanyo have announced a minor update to the SCP-2400, the new SCP-7000. The Sanyo SCP-7000 keeps the low-end features of its predecessor, but updates the external design slightly, introducing changeable faceplates along the way.
Coming in slightly bigger and heavier than the SCP-2400, the Sanyo SCP-7000 includes a 65k color TFT LCD display, and includes a battery capable of up to 3.5 hours talk time. Just 1MB of user accessible memory is available, though the phonebook is able to hold up to 500 names and numbers. The handset also features a Dura-Grip external coating, speakerphone functionality, and push-to-talk.
The Sanyo SCP-7000 includes the parental control features seen in the SCP-2400, allowing restriction of incoming and outgoing calls, as well as accessible services through Sprint's PCS Vision and Ready Link. Sprint also states that the parental controls could also be useful for business users.
The Sanyo SCP-7000 will be available through Telesales and Sprint.com starting November this year for US$179.99, or US$29.99 with a two-year service agreement. Full retail availability is slated for January 2007.
